Term 5

Week 5 (w/b 18th May) contains the following content.

Day 1: Children listen to a reading of 'The Great Kapok Tree'. They revise verbs then practise changing verb tenses and thinking of synonyms.

Day 2: Use the PowerPoint presentation on the present perfect form. (If you have audio, there is some voice over teaching on the PowerPoint) Children read extracts from 'The Great Kapok Tree' and write about what other animals may have said to the main character.

Day 3: Children look closely at an illustration and then revisit present perfect tense. They write in role as the main character in the text.

Day 4: Children read a poem about the Willow Pattern story. They annotate a picture of a plate to tell the story and create a story plan. They draft descriptive phrases.

Day 5: Children read a poem about Zeus and the Tortoise. They imagine dialogue between the two characters and write this as direct speech. They plan and write a version of the story.

If time is tight, perhaps prioritise Days 1-3 so they can get to grips with verb forms.

The aim is for the majority of these tasks to be undertaken independently if you are trying to work! The children will need to remember a sharp pencil and that the expectation in Year 4 is that written work is always joined.

The SPAG tasks are new for this week (18th May) and they are stand alone but cover Year 4 objectives that the children need to practise. There are also some handwriting sheets (which focus on previous Year 4 spellings) have been added as requested by a number of parents.
