Phonics & Writing
This week we are learning two new sounds.
The first sound is a trigraph. It has three letters but makes one sound. The sound is igh.
The second is a digraph. It has two letters and makes one sound. The sound is oa.
Introduce the new sounds on separate days and recap them daily if you can.
There are lots of fun ways to practice writing sounds and words; it doesn't always have to be using pen and paper. Here are some suggestions for things you could use:
shaving foam
flour
paint
playdough or plasticine
collage
sticks
chalk
icing pens
whiteboard + pen
water + paintbrush on the pavement
drawing on an i.pad
Developing fine motor skills is really important at this stage in your child's development. Strengthening fingers can help to improve handwriting too. Here are some fun activities your child can do at home which will be super beneficial for them:
Lego and other small construction
Playdough and plasticine
Colouring
Hama Beads
Threading (this could be beads or pieces of pasta etc)
Using pegs (hanging up dolls clothes or ordering numbers on a washing line)
