Other Curriculum Areas

On this page, you will find a range of activities for different subjects. These are extra ideas which could be done after English and Maths each day - maybe in the afternoons. Each week, choose one piece of learning that you are especially proud of, take a photo of it and ask you parents to email it to the Year 4 email address. Mrs Simmons and Mrs Stewart can't wait to see how creative you've been.

Science

In this lesson, you will learn about each of the stages in a flowering plant’s life cycle.

Before you start the lesson, think about these questions:

Have you ever grown anything from a seed?

Do you think bigger plants grow from bigger seeds?

Click on the link below to start your lesson:

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/life-cycle-of-a-plant/

Watch the video . Pause it when asked and complete the tasks either on the worksheet below or on paper (if you use the worksheet there is no need to set out a page as directed in the video).

After that, watch the time-lapse video below showing the germination and growth of a bean plant.

Maybe you could have a go at planting your own bean in a glass jar. Plant the bean near the edge of the jar so the roots are visible.

Art

There has been a lot in the news recently about the Black Lives Matter movement. This is because, sometimes, people are treated differently because of the colour of their skin. It is really important to respect and learn about other cultures so, for the next 3 weeks, we will be exploring the work of 3 different black artists.

This week, we will learn about Kimmy Cantrell and look at the amazing, creative and imaginative ceramic African marks that he makes.

First, go to his website and have a look at some of his incredible creationshttps://kimart.com/works/faces/

Then, look at the pictures below for inspiration. Also, watch the video below where Kimmy talks about his art and shows you how he makes it.

After that, collect some recycled materials from around your house (cardboard, bubble wrap, newspaper, wrapping paper, tin foil etc) and have a go at making your own African mask in the style of Kimmy.

Geography

India is famous for the beautiful architecture of the Taj Mahal. Watch the Powerpoint below to learn about it.

The Taj Mahal is one of the seven ancient wonders of the world. Can you find out what the others are and where they can be found in the world? Present your findings in an interesting way.

RE - Hindu worship in a Mandir

Use the PowerPoint below to learn about what a Mandir is and about some of the things that you may see or hear inside one. There is a video to watch and the link is on one of the PowerPoint slides.

Activity

(also explained in the PowerPoint)

Use the Mandir picture below or draw your own if you enjoy art.

Stick the Mandir picture in the middle of your page. Around the outside, write down as much of the information about Hindu worship in the Mandir that you can remember from the video and the PowerPoint.  You can also include drawings of things you may see inside the Mandir. Remember to present your information neatly.
