Other Curriculum Areas
On this page, you will find a range of activities for different subjects. These are extra ideas which could be done after English and Maths each day - maybe in the afternoons. Each week, choose one piece of learning that you are especially proud of, take a photo of it and ask you parents to email it to the Year 2 email address. Mrs Bertenshaw can't wait to see how creative you've been.
Science
This term we have been looking at plants. This week we will start an investigation to find out how plants grow in different conditions. We want to find out the best conditions for growing seeds.
For this investigation, you will need some compost/ soil, cress (or other fast growing) seeds and four pots.
I have done a video to show you how to set up your investigation. I would like you to set up the investigation in your house and complete the worksheet.

Art
There has been a lot in the news recently about the Black Lives Matter movement. This is because, sometimes, people are treated differently because of the colour of their skin. It is really important to respect and learn about other cultures so, for the next 3 weeks, we will be exploring the work of 3 different black artists.
This week, we will learn about Kimmy Cantrell and look at the amazing, creative and imaginative ceramic African marks that he makes.
First, go to his website and have a look at some of his incredible creations. https://kimart.com/works/faces/
Then, look at the pictures below for inspiration. Also, watch the video below where Kimmy talks about his art and shows you how he makes it.
After that, collect some recycled materials from around your house (cardboard, bubble wrap, newspaper, wrapping paper, tin foil etc) and have a go at making your own African mask in the style of Kimmy.

The SS Great Britain

First, watch this video to tour the ship and find out more about it.
Following watching the video, explore and discuss the famous artwork by Joseph Walter which depicts the launch of the SS Great Britain.
Today you may wish to explore the SS Great Britain website. Here you will find a lot of interactive information about Isambard Kingdom Brunel and the SS Great Britain (along with some of his other inventions.) You may enjoy playing the 'Full Steam Ahead' game too.
