Other Curriculum Areas

On this page, you will find a range of activities for different subjects. These are extra ideas which could be done after English and Maths each day - maybe in the afternoons. Each week, choose one piece of learning that you are especially proud of, take a photo of it and ask you parents to email it to the Year 3 email address. Miss Dicks can't wait to see all of your fantastic learning.

PSHE

In light of the recent events in the US and the current Black Lives Matter movement around the world, we thought this is an important topic to explore and discuss as a family this week. Please see the power point attached.

You might like to find Martin Luther King's famous 'I have a dream' speech. Discuss the meaning behind it and why we are still having this discussion years on. Particularly focus on the quote, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Science

Do you know what the main parts and functions of a flower are?

In this lesson, you will find out about the flowering parts of a plant.

Before you start the lesson, can you name any flowering plants? Do you know why some plants have flowers but other do not?

Click on the link below to start your lesson:

 https://www.thenational.academy/year-3/foundation/plants-what-are-the-parts-and-functions-of-a-flower-year-3-wk3-3

Start by completing the quiz. Try your best but don’t worry of you get some things wrong.

Then, watch the video. Pause it when asked and complete the tasks set out on the worksheet below or on paper. If you use the worksheet there is no need to set out a page as directed in the video.  During the video, Miss Roberts dissects a real flower and identifies each part. Maybe you could do this at home too. Please ask your parents first though! Also, be careful not to get pollen on your clothing as it can stain.

Next, make a model of the parts of the flower using craft materials or junk modelling. Try to include all the parts given in you star words.

After that, have a go at pressing some flowers. Follow the Natural History Museum’s guide: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/how-to-press-flowers.html

Art

This week, we will be developing our drawing and sketching skills. Make sure you have a piece of paper, a sharp pencil and a rubber ready. Click on the link below which will take you to a brilliant family youtube channel where the whole family love art and teach you how to draw loads of different things!

Follow the videos to develop your drawing skills. They all go step by step. Watch a little bit and pause while you complete the same bit. When you are ready, play again. Stop, start and rewind as often as you need to.
