On this page, you will find a range of activities for different subjects. These are extra ideas which could be done after English and Maths each day - maybe in the afternoons. Each week, choose one piece of learning that you are especially proud of, take a photo of it and ask you parents to email it to the Year 1 email address. Mrs Bertenshaw will be looking at your work this week and she can't wait to see what you've been up to.
PSHE
In light of the recent events in the US and the current Black Lives Matter movement around the world, we thought this is an important topic to explore and discuss as a family this week. Please see the power point attached.

How do you think trees change across the seasons?
In this lesson, you will be recapping on the different types of weather and exploring what happens to some trees in different seasons.
Before you start the lesson, go outside and look at some different trees. How can you tell if they are different? What is the same about all trees? What is different? Do you think the trees would look the same in the winter? How would they be different?
When you are ready, click on the link to start your lesson: https://www.thenational.academy/year-1/foundation/how-do-trees-change-across-the-seasons-year-1-wk3-3
Start by having a go at the quiz but don’t worry if you get things wrong. To practise your weather words, you could make picture cards and play a game with them to match the word to the picture.
Then, watch the video. Pause it when asked and complete the tasks either on the worksheet below or on paper.
During the video you will be prompted to ‘Have your turn’ where you should answer questions or repeat key facts. This week you will be asked to carry out an investigation to answer the question ‘Are all Spring leaves the same?’ You can do this by researching on the internet or by observing the leaves outside. At the end of the video, you can listen to a story about a famous female scientist: Rosalind Franklin.
When you have finished the lesson, do some finger painting! Split your page up into 4 sections and draw the four seasons by using your fingers to show how the leaves change in each season like in the pictures below.

You may have read the story ‘We are going on a bear hunt’ but here is a new version to enjoy ‘We are going on a leaf hunt’. You can watch a video of this story below.

Art
This week, we will be improve our drawing and sketching skills by learning how to draw a ladybird and a castle. All you need is a piece of paper, a pencil and a rubber. Follow the videos to improve your skills. They all go step by step. Watch a little bit and pause while you complete the same bit. When you are ready, play it again. Stop, start and rewind as often as you need to. Draw the shapes with a grown up if you need help. Can you follow the lines? Can you colour in the shape carefully? The teachers would love to see your finished pieces.

First, we will be filling our brains with facts about the population, how many countries are in Australia and the currency they use. Then we will be looking at the interesting animals and landmarks you could see if you visited Australia.
