Other Curriculum Areas

On this page, you will find a range of activities for different subjects. These are extra ideas which could be done after English and Maths each day - maybe in the afternoons. Each week, choose one piece of learning that you are especially proud of, take a photo of it and ask your parents to email it to the Year 5 email address.

Art

You could create some art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

Create your own picture or pattern with natural materials by using things you find. Go on a walk or look in your garden. Gather some small items together – leaves, petals, grasses, pebbles (don’t break bits off of trees or plants please!). Then, arrange your items to make a pattern or picture. You could take photos of your work to share.

PSHE

In these strange times, it's good to remind ourselves that we all have lots of great qualities that make us special.

Write a list of some of your good qualities. What makes you, you? What are you proud of?

Then, you could make a list of qualities you admire in your friends or family.

Are there any qualities you would like to work on developing in yourself?

Science

Over the next few weeks, we are going to be learning more about the Earth, rocks and the rock cycle. Today's lesson is all about one type of rock called 'igneous' rock.

Before you start the lesson, think about where rocks come from.  What do you think is below the surface of the Earth?  How old is the Earth and when did it form?

You will need a piece of lined paper and a pencil for this lesson. Remember to write with your lovely, neat, joined handwriting.

RE

Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about Buddhism. In this lesson, we will be finding out about Siddhartha Gautama. He is the first individual to have achieved enlightenment through the practice of meditation. He became known as Buddha, which means ‘the enlightened one’. We will learn about his life and his journey to enlightenment.

Make sure you have a pencil and paper ready. Click the link below when you are ready to start.

Try to do some physical activity each day. You could join the teachers who (mostly) do a Joe Wicks workout every morning at 9am!
