Other Curriculum Areas

On this page, you will find a range of activities for different subjects. These are extra ideas which could be done after English and Maths each day - maybe in the afternoons. Each week, choose one piece of learning that you are especially proud of and ask you parents to take a photo of it and email to the Year 4 email address to show Mrs Stewart and Mrs Simmons.

Geography

In Geography this term, Year 4 will be looking at the contrasting country of India and exploring the physical and human geography of that region.

Start by watching the 5 minute BBC Bitesize clip on the link below and make notes. Then draw or trace a map of India and label the neighbouring countries, the 3 main rivers, the main geographical areas of the country (eg. Himalayas, Western Ghats) and the seas/oceans that surround it. If space is tight, you can create a key and colour code your map.

Art

Our Art this term will link to India as much as we can.

Rangoli patterns are traditional Hindu designs that are often used to welcome people to their homes, especially during festivals such as Diwali. Watch the PowerPoint below then have a go at designing your own Rangoli pattern using the design sheet if you wish. The task is to design a Rangoli pattern on paper but if you are feeling creative, then you could design a pattern with chalk on the ground outside or create a pattern using dried beans and pulses from your cupboards.

Science

In this lesson, you'll explore the different conditions that plants need in order to grow well.

Before you start the lesson think about what plants you can see growing near where you live. Do you know if there are places in the world plants can or can’t grow?  Have you ever grown a plant before and what did need to grow well?

You will need a pencil, some paper and ruler for this lesson. Remember to write and draw neatly.

Click here to start the lesson.

When you have finished the lesson, you could be a scientist and set up your own experiment. You could try putting plants in different rooms in your house and observe how well they grow. Remember to return to the experiment each day to water it and note down any observations about the health of your plants.  You could make simple drawings of each plant or take a photograph to record the changes.

We would love to see any photos of your investigations.

PSHE

In these strange times, it's good to remind ourselves that we all have lots of great qualities that make us special. Think about this some more while you watch this video then have a go at the activity below.

Try to do some physical activity each day. You could join the teachers who (mostly) do a Joe Wicks workout every morning at 9am!
