Maths
This week we will be practicing 'adding more'. The idea is that the children will learn to count on from different numbers rather than counting from the beginning each time.
You may find that children do need to start from the beginning a few times until they gain confidence and develop this skill.
For example 6 + 5.
Use 6 lego pieces and 5 lego pieces. Tell the children there are 6 and model counting on 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. There are 11 pieces of lego altogether. 6 plus 5 totals 11. They might re-count all of the lego pieces to check.
This learning is very practical and can be applied to lots of games and imaginative play situations. I have attached some suggestions. It can also be practiced discretely in every day life with objects around the house. E.g. pegs, pasta pieces, tidying toys away.
I have included some addition calculations for children to solve if they wish. I would recommend using physical objects when adding.
