We will be continuing to use White Rose for our maths learning this week. Each day, watch the video and then either print the worksheet or just write the answers on paper.
This week, we will be exploring shape. Look around your house, how many different 2D and 3D shapes can you find?
Can you do some Doodle Maths every day?
Which class are going to top the Doodle table?
Monday 15th June
Today, you will be counting the sides and vertices (corners) on 2D shapes.
If you have some lolly sticks (or straws or pens that are the same length as each other), they will be useful in trying out the last task on the video. If you need help remembering what the different shapes are called for questions 1 and 4, go back to 5:30 on the video to see all of the names.

Tuesday 16th June
Today, we will be learning to count faces, edges and vertices (corners) on 3D shapes.
The video suggests making some 3D shapes by using straws and marshmallows. Other options include cocktail sticks or dry spaghetti for the edges and grapes or jelly sweets for the vertices. Construction kits such as K’nex could also be useful.
You can have fun exploring 3D shapes by unfolding cardboard boxes that you have at home (Toblerone boxes are especially fun - these are triangular prisms!).
The word mat below will help you remember and write the names of the different 3D shapes.
Tuesday 16th June

Wednesday 17th June
In this lesson, we will be sorting 2D (flat) and 3D (fat) shapes.
Wednesday 17th June

Thursday 18th June
In this lesson, we will be making patterns with 2D and 3D shapes. Before you start, try to find some 3D shapes around your house that you could make patterns with. Building blocks would be ideal or you could have a look in your kitchen cupboards (ask Mum or Dad first though!). Tins and boxes would work fine. Try and find a few of each shape.
For the second part of question 6 on the 2D shape worksheet, you could ask an adult or older brother or sister at home to give you a pattern to complete and they could finish yours.

Friday 19th June
Today, you could either do the Friday challenge on the Year 2 page of the White Rose website or you could try the challenge below. In this challenge, you need to solve a puzzle involving shapes made out of straws and balls.
