Maths

This week, we will be continuing with our learning about Fractions. We will still be using the White Rose resources but everything has been downloaded ready for you below. You can either print the worksheets off to complete or write the answers in a book or on paper.

Try to do Doodle Maths every day! Who will get to the top of the leader board this week?

Note for parents – these are deliberately practical lessons. In Year 3, children are not expected to be calculating equivalences using multiplication. The lessons do touch upon this but it’s important that they develop a strong visual understanding of the relative size of fractions by thinking about numerators and denominators. They will then build upon this as they move further up the school.

Also, the teacher is American – she says ‘fourths’ rather than ‘quarters’ - sorry!

Monday 8th June

Today, we will be finding fractions of a set of objects. You might want to print off and cut out the place value counters below to help you with this learning or you could make your own.

Tuesday 9th June

This lesson continues from yesterday. You might want the counters again.

Wednesday 10th June

In today's lesson, we are exploring equivalent fractions (fractions that are the same). You may want to print off the blank fraction bars below to help you. If you have a printer, don't worry, you can draw them.

For question 7 on the worksheet, you may not have a partner to talk to but you can write down what you have noticed instead.

Thursday 11th June

Today, we are continuing to explore equivalent fractions. To help you today, you might want to print off the blank fraction number lines (if you don't have a printer, you could draw some yourself).

The last section of the lesson (15:00 onwards) is definitely more of a challenge. If this is a step too far for you at the moment, don’t worry.

For question 5d on the worksheet, challenge yourself to find one more fraction for each shape instead of comparing with a partner.

Friday 12th June

We continue to explore equivalent fractions in more depth today. It will be useful to either print the fraction wall or to have it up on your screen for this lesson. A ruler would be useful too.
