This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

This week, we will be continuing to read and explore the book 'The Firework Makers Daughter'. If you have not finished last week's lessons, you will need to finish those off first otherwise this week's learning will not make sense!

Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

Lesson 4 - To identify the key features of a Haiku

Friday 10th July

Today, it is time to write your own Haiku! You will need a piece of paper, a sharp pencil and your work from yesterday. Listen carefully to the input. You might like to pause the video to write down the ‘star words’. You will need to pause the video to when the teacher tells you to continue with your writing. Then, press play and pause again and carry on with the teacher’s model. Check that your Haiku has 3 lines and follows the syllable pattern of 5,7,5.

While you are writing, try really hard to write neatly.

Lesson 5 - To write a Haiku

When you have finished, ask a parent to take a photo of your fantastic haiku poem and send it to the Year 2 email address to show Mrs Bertenshaw. She is really looking forward to reading your writing.
