This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.
These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.
If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.
This week, we will be reading and writing information texts.
Don't forget to read some e-books on Bug Club.

Monday 6th July
To warm up your brain, let's start with a phonics lesson on the sound ' ph '.
Phonics - ph

Now, let's start the main part of our learning for today where we will listen to a poem and have a chance to act it out. We will then answer some questions on it. You will need a piece of paper and a sharp pencil. Follow the phonics and the spelling input and listen carefully to the poem and rhyming words. You will be learning some new vocabulary and then answering some questions about the poem.
Don't forget to check your capital letters and full stops!
Lesson 1 – To listen to a poem
Tuesday 7th July
Let's warm up our brains with a phonics lesson. Our sound for today is 'ew'.
Phonics - ew

Now, let's start the main part of our lesson. Today, we will be identifying rhyming words and working out which words rhyme and which words do not. You will need a piece of paper and a sharp pencil. You will re-cap the poem from yesterday; join in if you can. Listen carefully to the information about how to identify rhyming words. Write down the correct answers for each question as you are told to.
Lesson 2 – To identify rhyming words
Wednesday 8th July
Let's start today with a phonics lesson. We will be exploring the 'oe' sound.
Phonics - oe

Today, we will be learning about onomatopoeia so that we can include it in our poem that we write on Friday. Onomatopoeia is when a word sounds like the sound it makes (bang, crash, smash).
Lesson 3 – To identify onomatopoeia
Thursday 25th June
Today, let's start by doing some spellings. Have a go at this spelling worksheet. Can you spell all of the words?
Today, we will be drawing a poetry plan so that we are ready to write in Lesson 5. You will be splitting your paper into 9 sections, which is a bit tricky, so you may want to ask an adult to help you to do this.
Friday 10th July
Today, you will be writing your Magic Wand poem. You will need your plan from yesterday, a piece of lined paper and a pencil. Remember to use onomatopoeia!
When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your writing and email it to the Year 1 email address. Mrs Bertenshaw will be reading your writing this week and she can't wait to read your poem.
