This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.
These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.
If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.
This week, you’re going to be writing a non-chronological report about an animal you’ve created. You may want to start thinking about what animal you want to make. It may be based on another animal you know or a mixture of lots of different ones. Think about what it looks like, how it moves, where it lives and what it eats.
Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

Monday 29th June
To warm up your brain, have a look at this week's spelling list and do the activities.
Then, you are ready to get started on today's learning. For this lesson, you’ll want to note down the new vocabulary that you’ve learnt to add in your own writing. Please also note down the terms from the glossary.
You’ve done a few word meaning lessons now so remember all those skills you’ve been taught to apply to the task. Remember, if the question tells you where the information is, you don’t need to read the entire text. If there are some words you don’t know, look them up in a dictionary or on the computer to help you. Answer the questions in your book or on paper. Please write neatly, with joined handwriting.
Lesson 1 - Non- Chronological Report: Reading Comprehension: Word Meaning
Tuesday 30th June
To warm up your brain today, do some Doodle English.
Then you are ready to start today's activity. Watch the video carefully to help you answer the questions. The teacher also talks about the purpose of an introduction which will be really helpful to remember for your own writing later on in the week. You may find it helpful to look up the words, appearance, habitat and diet. This will help you answer some of the questions. For question 3, make sure you look at the glossary again.
Lesson 2: Non-Chronological Report: Reading Comprehension - Structure
Wednesday 1st July
To warm up your brain, do some Doodle Spellings or Nessy (if you usually do Nessy at school).
Then, start today's main lesson. You can refer back to the key features on the slides if you pause and close the video. Remember, you can always resume the video. You have used many of these features in your own chronological reports this year so remember to keep adding them in.
Lesson 3 - Non-Chronological Report: Identifying the features of a text
Thursday 25th June
Start by watching this video to improve your vocabulary. Maybe you'll learn some new words that you can use in your writing.
Vocabulary - Eye Words

Then, get ready for today's SPaG lesson. Today, you’re focusing on conjunctions. We’ve done lots of work on subordinating and coordinating (FANBOYS) conjunctions. Remember, subordinating conjunctions are in complex sentences which contains a main and a subordinate clause (the subordinate clause is the part that doesn't make sense on its own and starts with the conjunction).
Answer the questions in your book or on lined paper. For question 3, you may have a different sentence ending. As long as it makes sense, you are right.
Lesson 4 - Non-Chronological Report: SPaG focus
Friday 3rd July
There were lots of new words this week - see how many you can include in your own writing. Use all the features you’ve looked at this week and remember to use lots of different conjunctions to help expand your sentences. Use the teacher's planning questions to help you before you write it up. If you’re stuck for ideas, use the suggestions they give you.
Once you've finished your writing, please draw a picture of your animal at the bottom of your report.
Lesson 5 - Non-Chronological Report: Write a non-chronological report
When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your fantastic report and email it to the Year 4 email address. Mrs Simmons can't wait to read your writing and look at your animal creations.
