This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

This week, we will be reading and writing poetry.

Don't forget to read some e-books on Bug Club.

Now, let's start the main part of our learning for today.

For this lesson, click the link below and watch the video. Listen carefully to the information text about a T-Rex. You will be learning some new vocabulary and then answering some questions. Please write the new vocabulary in your exercise book and draw a picture to help you remember it. For an extra challenge, you could write the definition too.

Don't forget to check your capital letters and full stops!

Now, let's start the main part of our lesson. For this lesson, you will need to split your page into 5 sections to draw a story map (Miss Browne will show you how to do this).

First, listen carefully to the information text again and join in to help you remember the facts. Follow Miss Browne as she models how to draw a text map of the T-Rex information. When you have finished your text map, have a go at retelling the information to yourself or someone at home.

Lesson 2: To commit an information text to memory

Wednesday 1st July

Today we have a grammar lesson about the past tense. You will be learning about verbs (doing words) and how we can change them to the past tense by adding the suffix –ed. Listen to Miss Browne as she explains what a verb is and how to add –ed to change them to the past tense. First, you will write some verbs and change them to the past tense. Next, you will write some sentences and change them to the past tense. To do this, you will need to find the verb in the sentence first.

Lesson 3: To understand how to use the past tense

Thursday 2nd July

Today, let's start by doing some spellings. Have a go at this spelling worksheet. Can you spell all of the words?

Today, you will start to write your information text about the ‘Terrifying T-Rex’. You will need your text map to help you remember the information. Follow Miss Browne as she helps you to write the first part of your information text. You will be using your phonics and spelling learning from this week and also your knowledge about how to write in the past tense.

Make sure you have lined paper and a sharp pencil ready.

Lesson 4: To start writing our information text

Friday 3rd July

Today, you will finish writing your information text about the ‘Terrifying T-Rex’. You will need your text map to help you remember the information and you will need the beginning of your information writing from yesterday. When you have finished, be ready with another coloured pen or pencil to edit your work.

Don't forget those capital letters and full stops!

Lesson 5: To continue to write our information text

When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your writing and email to the Year 1 email address. Mrs Bertenshaw will be reading your writing this week and she can't wait to read your stories.
