English

This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you will be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

This week, we will be reading and then writing diary entries.

Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

Monday 22nd June

To warm up, have a look at your spellings for the week and complete the activities on the sheet.

Then, click on the link below and watch the video. Pause and close the video when Mrs Blake asks and click next activity to access the question slides. You can answer the inference questions in your book or on lined paper. Then, play the video again to check your answers. At the end of the lesson, complete the quiz to see how well you have done.

Lesson 1: Diary Entry: Reading Comprehension - Inference

Tuesday 23rd June

To warm up today, do some Doodle English.

Then, have a go at today's lesson. Remember, watch and listen carefully to the teacher. Pause and close the video when Mr Emmerson asks and click next activity to access the question slides.

Lesson 2: Diary Entry: Reading Comprehension – Fact Retrieval

Wednesday 24th June

To warm up your brain, start off with some Doodle Spelling or Nessy (if you usually do Nessy at school) today.

Next, start today's lesson. During the independent task, write your answers in your book or on paper (don’t worry about the worksheet). Use the checklist on the slides to help you to identify the features and number the text features to help you.  Don't forget to write with your neat, joined handwriting.

Lesson 3: Diary Entry: Identifying features of a text

Thursday 25th June

Lesson 4: Diary Entry: SPAG Focus – Formality

Friday 26th June

Today, you will be writing your own diary entry. Make sure you pause and complete the sections of the writing when Mrs Barr asks you too. Use the WAGOLL and structure guidelines to help you. When you close the video, there are slides with extra scaffolds on to help you, including examples of idioms and question tags.

Make sure you write neatly with joined handwriting. When you have finished, edit your writing carefully. Please check your spellings and punctuation.

Lesson 5: Diary Entry: Writing a diary entry

When you have finished and checked your writing carefully, take a photo of it and ask your parents to email to the Year 5 account. Mrs Simmons or Mrs Bertenshaw will be marking your writing and they can't wait to read your brilliant diary entries.
