This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.
These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.
If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.
This week, we will be writing a persuasive rap!
Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

Monday 22nd June
To warm up your brain, have a look at this week's spelling list and do the activities.
Then, you are ready to get started on today's learning. This lesson is all about fact retrieval so remember all the skills you’ve already been taught in year 4. To watch the rap video, close the video and click on the ‘Next Activity’ button. Make sure you read through the rap at least once possibly twice to really help answer the questions. Answer the questions in your book or on paper. Please use your neat, joined writing and check your punctuation carefully too.
Tuesday 23rd June
To warm up your brain today, do some Doodle English.
Then you are ready to start today's activity. Listen to the rap again to remind yourself what it sounds like. This lesson is about summarising. Listen carefully to how they tell you to summarise because you don’t need to rewrite the entire rap! Answer the questions in your book or on lined paper.
Wednesday 24th June
To warm up your brain, do some Doodle Spellings or Nessy (if you usually do Nessy at school).
Then, start today's main lesson. For this lesson, you’ll want to write down the language features so you will have them ready to look back on later in the week. You can always re-watch the video to remind you of the different language features if you forget.
Thursday 25th June
Start by watching this video to improve your vocabulary. Maybe you'll learn some new words that you can use in your writing.
Vocabulary - Confident Words

Then, get ready for today's lesson. Listen carefully to the different types of verbs (imperative and modal). Refer back to the video if you need to. The worksheets include some activities that ask you to identify modal and imperative verbs.
Friday 26th June
Today, you will be writing your rap! First, write down all the ‘words of the day’ because you’ll want to refer back to them when you write your own. Use the WAGOLL to help you structure rap. Try to aim for at least 3 new verses. Magpie as many ideas as you want and see how many you can come up with.
Please write your rap up in neat to email to your teacher. Then, if you would like to, you could ask your parents to video you performing your rap!
When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your brilliant rap and email it to the Year 4 email address. Mrs Stewart and Mrs Simmons can't wait to read your raps and would also love to watch some videos of your performances!
