This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

This week, we will be continuing to read and explore the book 'The Firework Makers Daughter'. If you have not finished last week's lessons, you will need to finish those off first otherwise this week's learning will not make sense!

Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

To warm up today, have a look at your spelling list for this week and have a go at the activity on the sheet.

For anyone finding the Year 2 spellings too easy, pick 10 words for a weekly spelling list from this Year 3 and 4 common exception word list instead.

Then, you will be ready to start this lesson. You will need a piece of lined paper and a sharp pencil. Click on the link below and then click the play button to watch the video. When you have listened to the input, you will need to pause the video to write down the questions Miss Emms has on her computer screen. Press play to watch Miss Emms model how to record the answer then pause the video to write down your answer.  Press play to check your answers for any marvellous mistakes.

Thursday 25th June

For this lesson, you will need a piece of lined paper and a sharp pencil. Click on the link below to go to the lesson. Then, click the play button to watch the video.

After listening to Miss Emms’ input, you will need to pause the video. Then, write down the different features of a recount that you can spot.

Lesson 4: To identify the key features of a recount

Friday 26th June

Today, you will be writing a recount as if you were Lila. You will need to pause and write down the ‘Star Words' that Miss Emms puts on her screen. These words will help you when you are doing your writing. Try to include them in your recount. Miss Emms models 5 lines of writing of the recount. She then asks you to carry on writing independently. You might find it useful to have the ‘order of events’ sheet (click on the dots at the bottom of the screen to find it) up so that you can make sure your recount in chronological order.

While you are writing, try really hard to write neatly. Don't forget capital letters and full stops.

Lesson 5: To write a recount

When you have finished, ask a parent to take a photo of your brilliant recount and send to the Year 2 email address to show Mrs Bertenshaw. She is really looking forward to reading your writing.
