This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

This week, we will be exploring the brilliant story 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea'.

Don't forget to read some e-books on Bug Club.

When you have listened to the story, be ready to answer some questions at the end to see what you have remembered and understood. Write your answers down on lined paper or in your book.

Don't forget to check your capital letters and full stops!

Now, let's start the main part of our lesson. First, you will need to either fold a piece of paper to make a grid of 9 squares or draw 9 boxes into your book. You will use this for your story map.

Listen carefully to the story again. Follow Miss Browne as she models how to draw a story map of 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' in your exercise book. How much of the story can you remember? Can you retell it off by heart?

Lesson 2: To commit a story to memory

Wednesday 24th June

Let's start today with a phonics lesson. We will be exploring the 'ue' sound.

In our English lesson today, we will be learning about questions. Listen to Miss Browne as she explains what a question is. First, you will read some sentences together and decide if they need a full stop or a question mark. Next, you will write some sentences and add a question mark or a full stop. You will then mark the sentences together. Finally, you will be given a challenge to write 2 questions of your own.

Lesson 3: To understand how to identify and write questions.

Thursday 25th June

Today, let's start by doing some spellings. Have a go at this spelling worksheet. Can you spell all the words?

Today, you will start to write the story of ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. You will need your story map to help you remember the events in the story. Follow Miss Browne as she helps you to write a sentence for the first 4 boxes of your story map. You will be using your phonics and spelling learning from this week to help you.

Make sure you have lined paper and a sharp pencil ready.

Lesson 4: To start to write our story

Friday 19th June

Today, you will finish writing your story of ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. You will need your story map to help you remember the events in the story. When you have finished, have a coloured pen or pencil ready to edit your work.

Don't forget those capital letters and full stops!

Lesson 5: To write the end of your story

When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your writing and email to the Year 1 email address. Mrs Bertenshaw will be reading your writing this week and she can't wait to read your stories.
