This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

This week, we will be reading and writing poetry.

Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

Monday 15th June

To warm your brain up this morning, start off by doing some Doodle Spellings or Nessy (if you usually do Nessy at school).

Make sure you have a sharp pencil and lined paper ready. Don't forget to write with your neat, joined writing.

Then, you are ready to start the lesson. Today, we are going to explore the meaning of words using, ‘The Sound Collector’ poem. Watch the video by clicking on the link below, when you have listened to the poem, answer the questions on lined paper or in your books. Then, play the video again to check your answers. At the end of the lesson, complete the quiz to see how well you have done.

Lesson 1 Poetry: Reading Comprehension – Word meaning

Tuesday 16th June

To warm up today, do some Doodle English.

Today, the focus is the reading skill of inference (this means understanding what the poem is about). Listen carefully to the input in the video.

Lesson 2 Poetry: Reading comprehension - Inference

Wednesday 17th June

To warm up today, have a go at the spelling activity sheet below. How many words can you spell correctly?

Now, listen carefully to the input in the video all about the key features of a poem. Write your answers identifying the key features of the poem into your book or on lined paper. When you have finished, continue watching the video and mark your answers.

Lesson 3 Poetry: Identifying features of a text

Thursday 18th June

To warm up today, ask a parent or older brother or sister to quiz you on the spellings your learnt yesterday. How many can you remember?

Then, listen carefully to the input in the video about expanded noun phrases. Today’s task will take you on a sound scavenger hunt. Create a list in your book or on paper to use tomorrow.

Lesson 4 SPaG Focus – Expanded noun phrases

Friday 19th June

Start by watching this video to improve your vocabulary. Maybe you can use some of the words in your writing.

Vocabulary - Sad Words

Today you will be creating your very own sound poem. Use the WAGOLL to help you and pause or rewind the video if you need to remind yourself of some of the key features. If you want, you could do a first draft in rough and then write your poem up in neat using your best, joined handwriting.

Think about how a poem should be presented (it should look like a poem not a story). You could illustrate it too.

When you have finished, use a dictionary to check your spellings.

Lesson 5 Poetry: Write a sound poem

When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your fantastic poem and email it to the Year 3 email address to show Miss Dicks. She can't wait to read them!
