This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

This week, we will be continuing to read and explore the book 'The Firework Makers Daughter'. If you have not finished last week's lessons, you will need to finish those off first otherwise this week's learning will not make sense!

Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

If you are choosing to try the Oak Academy Year 1 lessons this week, we suggest you do the 'Katie in London' sequence from last week as we have already done 'George and the Dragon.' Click here to find these lessons.

Monday 15th June

To warm up your brain today, start off with some Doodle English.

Then, you will be ready to start this lesson. You will need a piece of lined paper and a sharp pencil. Click on the link below and then click the play button to watch the video. When you have listened to the input, and watched Miss Em’s model how to write the answer, you will need to pause the video to write down your answer. Please write neatly and check your capital letters and full stops. Then, play the video again to check your answers for any marvellous mistakes.

Lesson 1: The Firework Maker’s Daughter to retrieve information

Tuesday 16th June

To warm up your brain today, start off with some Doodle Spelling.

For this lesson, you will need a piece of lined paper, a sharp pencil and some coloured pencils (yellow, orange and red).

Lesson 2: The Firework Maker’s Daughter to retrieve information

Wednesday 17th June

To warm up today, have a go at this spelling activity sheet. How many of the words can you spell correctly?

For this lesson, you will need a piece of lined paper, a sharp pencil and coloured pencils. An adult might need to help you pause the video at different points during the lesson. Listen carefully to the input and have a go at identifying the key features in a setting description.

Lesson 3: To identify the features of a setting description

Thursday 18th June

To warm up today, ask an adult or older brother or sister to quiz you on yesterday's spellings. How many can you spell correctly now?

For this lesson, you will need a piece of lined paper and a sharp pencil. An adult might need to help you pause the video to write down the sentences Miss Em’s puts on her screen. Make sure you write neatly and check your capital letters, full stops and commas.

Lesson 4: To identify and use commas in a list

Friday 19th June

Today, you will be writing your setting description. An adult might need to help you pause the video to write down the ‘Star Words’ Miss Emms puts on her screen. These words will help you when you are doing your writing. Try to include them in your description. Miss Emms will model her start to her setting description. You can use her ideas, then please go on and add a few sentences of your own.

While you are writing, try really hard to write neatly. Don't forget capital letters and full stops. Can you try and include commas in a list like you did yesterday?

Lesson 5: To write a setting description

When you have finished, ask a parent to take a photo of your brilliant writing and send to the Year 2 email address to show Mrs Bertenshaw. She is really looking forward to reading your descriptions.
