This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.

These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.

If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.

This week, we will be exploring the story of Saint George and the Dragon.

Don't forget to read some e-books on Bug Club.

Now, let's start the main part of our learning for today.

For this lesson, click the link below and watch the video and listen to the story about St George and the Dragon. When you have listened to the story, be ready to answer some questions at the end to see what you have remembered and understood. Write your answers down on lined paper or in your book.

Don't forget to check your capital letters and full stops!

In our English lesson today, you are going to draw your own dragon and use adjectives to describe its appearance. You will learn about nouns and verbs to help you do this and then you will label your picture with your descriptions.

Lesson 3: To describe a character’s appearance

Thursday 18th June

Today, let's start by doing some spellings. Have a go at this spelling worksheet. Can you spell all the words?

For today's lesson, you will need the picture of your dragon from yesterday. You are going to use adjectives to describe your dragon’s personality. You will need to think of a name for your dragon and Miss Browne will help you to start writing your character description.

Make sure you have lined paper and a sharp pencil ready.

Lesson 4: To describe a character’s personality

Friday 19th June

Can you remember your spellings from yesterday? Ask an adult or older brother or sister to quiz you on the words.

Then, it's time to finish writing your character description.  You will need the picture of your dragon.

When you have finished writing your character description, be ready with another coloured pen or pencil to edit your writing. Don't forget those capital letters and full stops!

Lesson 5: To write a character description

When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your writing and your dragon picture and email to the Year 1 email address. Mrs Bertenshaw will be reading your writing this week and she can't wait to see what you have produced.
