This week, we will continue using the Oak Academy for our English lessons. On their website, you will watch a video of a lesson taught by a teacher. Then, you be given some activities to have a go at.
These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5. Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.
If you have not finished last week's lessons, please finish those off first before starting a new unit. Remember to take a photo of your final piece every Friday to email in.
Don't forget the brilliant e-books on Bug Club.

Monday 8th June
To warm up your brain, do some Doodle Spellings or Nessy (if you usually do Nessy at school).
Today, you will be answering some questions about a text. Remember to use the text to help you answer questions. You can go back to earlier in the video so you can have the text up. Write the answers on lined paper or in your book. Please edit any you didn’t get correct the first time. It is easier if you pause and close the video and click next activity. You can always resume the video at any stage.
Lesson 1 - Reading Comprehension – Word Meaning
Tuesday 9th June
To warm up your brain today, do some Doodle English.
In this lesson, you will need to pause and close the video and then press next activity to access the task. Remember to go back to the text to answer the questions. It is not a memory test! You can always resume the video at any stage.
*Please note* there is a mistake on the independent task and questions 1 and 2 are from the wrong text. Move straight to question 3 and continue (sorry about this!).
Lesson 2 - Reading Comprehension – Fact Retrieval
Wednesday 10th June
To warm up, watch the video below to improve your vocabulary.
Vocabulary - Feeling Bad Words

In this lesson, you may want to jot down the key features of a story. For the independent activity, answer the questions on lined paper or in your book. Look back at the text to help you. It is easier if you pause and close the video and click next activity. You can always resume the video at any stage.
Lesson 3 - Story: Identifying the features of a text
Thursday 11th June
Start today by having a go at this spelling activity sheet.
We did lots about fronted adverbials when you were at school...can you remember? Use all the knowledge that you have. You may want to jot down some of the ideas he gives you in the lesson to magpie for your own story. It is easier if you pause and close the video and click next activity.
Lesson 4 - SPaG focus – Fronted adverbials
Friday 12th June
Read the start of the story as many times as you would like. Then you will be finishing the story, we want to know how they escape the security guards. Make it as detailed as you can. Remember all our learning from Year 4. Jot down any ideas he suggests to help you. Please write neatly with your best joined handwriting. Challenge yourself to include a range of punctuation like brackets, question marks and exclamation marks.
When you have finished, ask your parents to take a photo of your amazing writing and email to the Year 4 email address. Mrs Stewart and Mrs Simmons are really looking forward to reading these endings.
