This week, our English lessons will be from the Oak Academy. Each day, you can click on the link and watch a video of a teacher who will explain what you need to do. You will need to ensure that you have a sharp pencil and lined paper ready for each day. Please remember to use your best, neatest joined handwriting.
These lessons will build up skills throughout the unit and you will produce a final written piece in lesson 5.
Use the button in the right hand corner of the screen to navigate between sections of the lesson. You can pause the video and come back to it at any point.
Don't forget, there are loads of great e-books for you to read on Bug Club. https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/
Monday 1st June
This week, we will be exploring poetry. There is a copy of the Poem ‘The magic box’ by Kit Wright below for you to refer back to. Write down the word of the day in your book or on paper to refer back to. Read the questions twice just like she says in the video. It may help to write down the instructions before she moves on so you can refer back to them. There isn’t a worksheet, write on paper or in your book instead.
Lesson 1 – Poetry: Reading Comprehension – Word Meaning
Tuesday 2nd June
Today, to warm up, click on the link below for a short vocabulary lesson. Don't worry about the first part - we didn't do the last lesson.
Then, click on the link below and watch the video carefully. Remember to write neatly with your lovely, joined writing.
Lesson 2 – Poetry: Reading Comprehension – Language
Wednesday 3rd June
Today, warm up your brain by doing some Doodle English.
Then, have a go at today's lesson. Your answers to the independent task might be different in task 2 but it doesn’t mean you’re wrong. Check your punctuation carefully.
Thursday 4th June
To warm up today, have a go at the spelling activities on this sheet.
* Have a look at the spellings on the document above. Mrs Simmons thinks the example for the homophone 'effect' is wrong. What do you think?
After that, try today's lesson on expanded noun phrases. For this lesson, you may want to write down some ideas and pause the video whilst the teacher goes through it. Write down the noun phrases in your book or on paper.
Remember the noun phrase includes the noun itself as well.
Lesson 4 – SPAG focus: Expanded noun phrases
Friday 5th June
Today, you will be writing your own poem. You may want to have the copy of the poem to refer back to. Write your plan out in your book to help you write it later. Use the WAGOLL to help you as well.
When you are writing, remember to use a sharp pencil. Write on lined paper and think carefully about the layout; how should a poem look on the page?
Lesson 5 – Poetry: Write a repetitive poem
When you have finished, please ask you parents to take a photo and email it to the Year 4 email address. Mrs Stewart and Mrs Simmons would love to read your amazing poems.
